One Good Man by Rie McGaha

Rie and I belong to one the same Yahoo mail list groups, Sweet ‘n Sexy Divas (yeah, I know. I don’t really qualify as a diva). She intrigued me by her love of animals and her extensive backlist. How can a mother of twelve, Nana of 34, write as much as she can and still have time to be an animal activist? She makes me tired just thinking about her!

When I read her book, One Good Man, I saw she had created a different heroine than I’ve seen in my readings. Allison is a large woman and feels she is unattractive to men and, with a recently failed relationship behind her, she moves to Biloxi to restart her life. There, she meets Stephen, who is attracted to her, but she can’t believe this Adonis of a man could fall for a plus-size woman. One Good Man is a well-done character study of the principle characters, as well as the secondary ones, Stephen’s father, ‘The Captain, for instance. Rie handles the different personalities with aplomb and delivers a well-written romance.

From her web site:

Being raised with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other gave Rie a deep love for nature. She has resided in the Kiamichi Mountains of SE Oklahoma for more than ten years where she rescues animals, nurses them back to health and tries to find homes for them. She is the mother of 12 and Nana of 34.
